Academic ceremony
Our academic ceremony with the conferment of doctoral degrees and the inauguration of professors is held every two years. At that time, we also celebrate new associate professors, honorary doctors and laureates in a formal manner.
The first academic ceremony with new doctors who have defended their doctoral theses at the Swedish Defence University's own doctoral programmes was held in 2024.
This year's academic ceremony will take place on 26 November, 2026.

The Swedish Defence University's academic ceremony will take place at Stockholm City Hall on Thursday 26 November 2026.
About the academic ceremony
The academic ceremony is a European university tradition with roots in the Middle Ages and in ancient symbolism.
Previous ceremonies
We celebrated our first academic ceremony on 22 November 2024, where new doctors from the Swedish Defence University's own doctoral programmes were conferred.

We conduct graduation and closing ceremonies for both military and civilian education.

From artillery college to university
We have a long tradition of military education. Our roots can be traced back to the Artillery College at Marieberg, founded in 1818.
