Admitted to freestanding courses

Welcome as a new student at the Swedish Defence University (SEDU)! Here you will find information for those who have been admitted to one of our freestanding courses

In the time between the admission results and the start of your studies, there are a few things you need to do. Use the checklist below to help you prepare.

Checklist before study start

The admission results are published on www.universityadmissions.se in July for autumn semester studies and December for spring semester studies.

If you have been admitted, or waitlisted in selection 1, you need to accept the offer to keep your place. Please see www.universityadmissions.se for more information.

Conditionally admitted

If you have been conditionally admitted, you must still accept or decline your place. Conditional admission means that you must fulfil the condition no later than the start of the course. Please contact antagning@fhs.se as soon as you have fulfilled the condition, in order to register for the course.

Waiting list admission

After the regular registration period has closed, we will begin admitting those on the waiting list, to the courses that have not been filled. For the autumn semester courses, admission from the waiting list will take place during week 34. For the spring semester courses, admission from the waiting list will take place during week 2.

If you have been waitlisted and received a new admission letter and email with an offer from us, you must register to keep your place on the course. Information on how to register can be found below in the box "Registration".

We only contact waitlisted applicants by email, so please remember to check your spam folder as well.

Please note that we do not hold on-campus roll calls where you can attend in person to claim a place.

Key dates and deadlines

A successful admissions process depends a lot on meeting deadlines. Find out all the important dates for your application to courses and programmes in Sweden via the link below.

If your status requires that you pay tuition fees you will receive an invoice with payment details and a reference number from us. Please do not transfer any money before you receive this invoice.

Registration is compulsory to keep your place

As a new student, you are required to register in the study documentation system Ladok. Registration is mandatory for those admitted in selection round 1 or 2, and is necessary in order for you to retain your study place.

You will be registered and notified by the International Office during the registration period.

Schedule

Once you have your student account, you can see your complete schedule.

Canvas learning platform

Canvas is the digital hub for your studies. There you will find course-specific areas with, for example, course descriptions, lecture material, assignments, discussion forums and evaluation forms. Once you have your student account, you can log in to the learning platform.

Syllabus and course literature

We recommend that you read the course syllabus and reading list for your first course before the start of the programme. This will help you prepare for the start of your studies and purchase your course literature in good time.

Please note that the course literature may be revised no later than 10 weeks before the start of the course.

Zoom for distance learning

We use the video conferencing service Zoom for distance learning.

You can collect your access card at the Swedish Defence University from the start of the semster.

Please remember to bring a valid photo ID.

The introduction days begin with a welcome day on Friday 28 August. The Vice-Chancellor will welcome you to the university and the student union kicks off its orientation weeks. Programme introductions are held on Monday 31 August.

A more detailed schedule will follow.
