Intelligence and Security Service Platform

In January 2025, the Swedish Defence University entered into an agreement with the Swedish Armed Forces (the Military Intelligence and Security Service) to esatablish a platform for education, research and collaboration in the field of intelligence and security services.

The platform is based at the Swedish Defence University, but the aim is to create a meeting place and collaborative arena for the entire Swedish intelligence community. Research in this field is growing rapidly, and the demand for education is increasing across the sector. The platform is intended to respond to this development.

Education, research and collaboration in intelligence and security services

Today there is a vibrant environment for intelligence and security studies at the Swedish Defence University, encompassing research, education and collaboration. A key success factor is the close link between research and education, and the opportunities for researchers to benefit from the proven experience of practitioners.

The research focuses on intelligence and security services at all levels – from analysis and the analyst, to the organisation itself and its role within the state. A significant part of this research is carried out in collaboration with practitioners. The research group also brings together a number of researchers from different departments.

The Swedish Defence University also runs extensive educational programmes in the field of intelligence and security services. These range from elective courses within the The Joint Advanced Command and Staff Programme, to professional development for staff at the Military Intelligence and Security Service and relevant authorities. In addition, an elective course is offered within the master’s programmes in political science and war studies.
