Access to electronic materials

Students and employees of the National Defence University have access to the library's electronic materials by logging in to the school's network or via remote access.

You can search for e-books in our search service Primo, where you limit to Books - Full text. You can also search directly in the e-book databases that can be found in the menu to the right.

Most eBooks can be read by multiple users at the same time, but some books are limited to one, two, or three simultaneous users. If the book is on loan, you can join the queue for it by entering your email address. You'll be notified when the book is available again.

The e-books are available at the Anna Lindh Library for all employees and students, even remotely. For external visitors, the e-books are only available for reading on the public computers at the main library at the Swedish Defence University.

If you cannot download an e-book in full text (e.g. as a pdf), you sometimes need to use the programs below:

Adobe ID is needed for authentication if you use Adobe digital editions (computer, tablet, mobile) or, for example, Bluefire reader, ReadEra or PocketBook (tablet, mobile) to read e-books.

Loan periods, printouts and downloads vary depending on which supplier and publisher the book comes from. All our e-books can be read online and many can also be downloaded for a certain time to your own computer, tablet or mobile. When you download a book, you choose the loan period. The loan period varies but is usually between 1-28 days. When the loan period is over, you will no longer be able to read the book, even if the file remains on your computer. If you want to borrow the book again, you must download it again.

Respect the license terms of the electronic material. Printing, copying and downloading of the library's e-resources may only be done for personal use for study or research purposes.

Download eBooks from Ebook Central and Ebsco Ebook Academic Collection

To download eBooks from E-book Central or Ebsco, you need to create an Adobe ID and need to have the Adobe Digital Editions program installed on your computer. On FHS computers, the program is pre-installed, otherwise it is possible to install the program for free.

Download Adobe Digital Editions

If you want to read the e-book on a mobile phone or tablet, you need to download an e-book application, such as Bluefire reader, and then connect your Adobe ID to it.

In Ebsco you first need to create a personal account to be able to download books, and in E-book central you first need to log in with your FHS account.

You create a personal account in Ebsco by going to the database's home page and clicking on Sign in, then Create an account, and fill in your personal details.

When you log in to Ebsco, you need to select Swedish Defence University as your department.

Adobe has its own step-by-step guide that explains how to create an Adobe ID here: https://helpx.adobe.com/se/manage-account/using/create-update-adobe-id.html

Scroll down the guide and follow "Create an Adobe account with your email address". You can choose to create the account with your private email address or with your FHS email address.

Once the account is created, you'll need to verify the email address.

Once you have downloaded an eBook, you need to open it using Adobe Digital Editions. On FHS computers, the program is already installed, otherwise you can install the program for free here: https://www.adobe.com/solutions/ebook/digital-editions/download.html

In the program, you will see a box that says that you need to authenticate your computer. Select "Adobe ID" in the eBook Vendor, and then fill in the email address and password that you chose when you created the Adobe account. Then click "Authorize".

Now the e-book should start to open in the program. It may take a few minutes.
